More about me…

Hi, my name is Peter Cooper and live in Bakewell right in the heart of the glorious Peak District, Derbyshire.
I started pottery evening classes in 2014 run by Derbyshire Adult Education and held at Lady Manners School.

I have got so much out of pottery, not just the creative process, but also the socialising, having fun and sharing the pleasure of getting the finished pot out of the kiln.

I would like this to continue, not just for myself but for the local community and visitors to the Peak District.

Sadly, the evening classes finished in September 2019) due to reductions in central government funding and raising costs. I cannot blame Derbyshire Adult Education, they have been most supportive, but have had no choice but to make difficult decisions.

So….  I am in the process of setting up a pottery studio in Bakewell not just for myself but for all locals and visitors to the Peak District to be able to continue to enjoy creating all types of pottery.

The Future

At the moment Bakewell Pottery is just me.  But I want it to be larger and last longer than me.  So I plan to return to the idea of a setting up a charity later in 2020.

But right now, I am concentrating on getting it all up and running.

I want the pottery to be run on a “Not For Profit” basis for the benefit of the community.  However it must be sustainable, this means the running costs must be covered by the fees.  For example, there’s the rent (at £800 per month), insurance, broadband, etc etc

There are many things that the pottery will be doing – go to “Coming in Feb 2020” page to see the sort of sessions that will be offered and the costs.
